Energy Revolution

An international energy revolution is underway. Future climate change is inextricably linked to future energy solutions. Capping the global temperature rise at under 2 degrees as laid out in the Paris Agreement calls for fundamental changes to energy production and consumption. In this first of a series of 12 conferences the Kazakh government ceremoniously opens the doors to the Astana EXPO-2017 Future Energy Forum, providing a vital space and opportunity to focus on the international energy revolution.

With its rich natural resources and geopolitical status, Kazakhstan is uniquely positioned to establish a new Eurasian energy market and become a role model for future energy– bridging East and West. International experts, leaders, and visionaries from all key fields offer inspiring visions of our global energy future, challenging us to see the international energy revolution as not only essential, but both inevitable and possible.

Culminating with the Astana EXPO-2017 Manifesto of Values and Principles, the Astana EXPO-2017 Future Energy Forum is where the comprehensive story of future energy unfolds.

British presenter Dallas Campbell, who is known for TV series such as The Gadget Show and Bang Goes the Theory, will host the Energy Revolution conference.

Do We Need an Energy Revolution?

Do We Need an Energy Revolution? Keynote.

In December 2015 the Paris Climate Accord was signed by 195 nations, all agreeing to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide to net-zero within the second half of this century. This implies nothing less than a global Energy Revolution. But the proclaimed contributions do not yet add up to a solution. This talk asks the question why this Energy Revolution is necessary? Key points are the impact of climate on nature and human society, the economic damages of sea-level rise, and global repercussions of increasingly extreme weather conditions.
